In 2002, the Auburn Rotary Club partnered with the Lee County
Sunrise Rotary Club and Opelika Rotary Club in securing $3,000 in Rotary
Community Action Program (CAP) funds to support the Food Bank of East
Alabama's The mobile food pantry — formerly a refrigerated beer distribution truck — helps bring the Food Bank’s resources to remote areas of the organization's service area. It is one of the first of its kind in the nation, and the first of its kind in the Southeast U.S. The Mobile Food Pantry can transport up to 7,500 pounds of food to a sponsoring church or non-profit organization, which underwrites the cost of food distributed. In the case of the Rotary Mobile Food Pantry, first Community Action Program funds, then continuing budgeted funds from the Auburn Rotary Club, eliminate the need of agencies to pay for this service and might otherwise be unable to provide food to its local residents, church congregation or agency clients. Formerly known as Christmas in April, Rebuilding Together
Originating as the club's 75th anniversary project, Auburn Rotary Club
has committed to an annual clean-up work day at Hickory Dickory Park Starting out as an annual club project, the Hickory Dickory Park club clean-up effort is now a standing Rotary committee as part of the club's community service committees. Park-improvement projects include planting new trees and shrubs, remulching play and landscaping areas, cleaning playground equipment, and general park repairs. The club's most recent work day was in June 2007, during which club members replinished mulch in the playground's three primary play areas. In April 2006, the club used district funding to replace the water fountain at the park. In 1995-1996, the Auburn Rotary Club became an international partner with the Rotary Club of Montgomery (Ala.), the Rotary Foundation and the Rotary Club of Siliguri (India). The Auburn Rotary Club, along with its two sister clubs, contributed $5,000 to establish the blood bank. The Rotary Foundation made a matching grant of $15,000. Today, the Paul P. Harris Siliguri Rotary Blood Bank continues to recognize our club's contribution to a safe community blood supply by including our name on its building and letterhead. The club received renewed appreciation from the Rotary
Club of Siliguri in July 2003 ( |
