MEMBERSHIP

 

July 1, 2007 = 120 Members

RECOGNITION/AWARDS

 

Presidential Citation 2007-08: Received a Presidential Citation for demonstrating excellence and exemplary achievement in Rotary’s second century of service through public image initiatives and continued efforts in club, community, vocational, and international service.

 

District Simplified Grant: Received a $1,000 District Simplified Grant to provide educational kiosks as part of the stream revitalization project at Town Creek Park.

 

Star Club Award: Exceeded our club goal of reaching an average of $100 per member for the Rotary Foundation with an average of $141.73 per member as of April 30, 2008. This earned the Auburn Rotary Club recognition as a Star Club of District 6880.

 

The Rotary Foundation:  Exceeded our club goal of contributing $12,500 to the Rotary Foundation with contributions of approximately $20,000 (160% of our club goal).

 

Auburn Rotary Club President’s Award (for extraordinary service to the club and to the ideals of Rotary):  Awarded to Kyle Butler.

 

Auburn Rotary Club Professional Excellence Award (for demonstrating professional excellence and living the Four-Way Test in his place of work):  Awarded to Dr. Tom Vaughan.

 

Citizen of the Year: Recognized Rev. Clifford Jones as the Citizen of the Year and awarded him a PHF.

 

Teachers of the Year: Recognized Auburn City Schools Teachers of the Year Bruce Zutter and Jacquie Middleton and awarded them each with a $500 check.

 

Rotary International Day: Mayor Bill Ham proclaimed February 23, 2008 as Rotary International Day in Auburn.

 

Rotary Scholarship: Provided a $1,000 scholarship to Sarvaiski Wilson, a graduating senior from Beauregard High School, who plans to enroll at Auburn University in the fall of 2008.

 

OTHER CLUB ACTIVITIES/ACCOMPLISHMENTS

 

·        Successfully held the first annual Radio Auction, raising more than $15,000 to increase funding for financial contributions to meet local community needs.

·        Created Auburn Rotary Community Needs, Inc. to become the club’s 501c3 organization for receiving tax-exempt contributions.

·        Completed the move to a new location for weekly club meetings.

·        Purchased an audio/video system, laptop PC, and projector for the club.

·        Updated the Club Constitution and By-Laws.

·        Created a new board position for Public Relations effective with the 2008-2009 year.

·        Hosted the GSE Team from Brazil in partnership with the Opelika Rotary Club.

·        Presented History Moments each month during club meetings.

 

LOCAL COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES

 

·        Sponsored booth at the Auburn City School’s Fall Festival.

·        Sponsored Boy Scout Troop #7.

·        Sponsored the Babies Love Books program which presents a book and educational packet stressing the value of reading to parents every baby born at the East Alabama Medical Center.

·        Provided dictionaries to third graders in Auburn City Schools.

·        Held Annual Maintenance Day at Hickory Dickory Park, May 2008.

·        Sponsored two high school students to attend RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards Program).

·        Provided outstanding weekly programs for our members.

The Family of Rotary Committee was extremely active, resulting in members being more aware of cares and concerns, and members being remembered during times of hardship.
