AU Natural Resource Management and Development Institute |
Dr. Larry Filmer from the Auburn University Natural Resource Management and Development Institute addressed the Auburn Rotary Club regarding the efforts of the newly formed institute to conserve natural resources in Alabama, better serve the communities across the state, and respond to emerging challenges to identify and develop new sources of bio-fuel energy. He also said the institute is looking to form partnerships with industry to help achieve these goals. He elaborated about the use of sawgrass in biofuel, as well as soy ben and cultivated algae as feed stock to be converted into oil. The institute is also looking at water issues across the state, which have become very noteworthy with the drought across the Southeast. This area of research and exploration may prove to be one of the key areas that will benefit not only Alabama citizens but people across the country and worldwide.
