WRBL Channel 3 (Columbus, Ga.) meteorologist Bob Jeswald spoke to the Auburn Rotary Club about his role in keeping Lee County residents not only informed about current and future weather conditions, but more importantly, alerting us to any impending bad weather in the area. Channel 3 employs some of the latest technology in weather reporting by utilizing Doppler radar and Sky Tracker technology. This equipment can tell viewers where severe weather is occurring and predict where it will be in the next 15 minutes. This information is critical for area residents, especially when tornados are in the area. Channel 3 has recently entered a partnership with the Opelika-Auburn News to provide better coverage of Lee County news with not only television and print media, but also Internet and even text-message alerts. Jeswald also urged everyone to purchase an inexpensive NOAA weather radio that will sound an alarm if severe weather is in your area.
