Auburn Rotarian and Lee County Sheriff Jones updated Rotarians on the progress of the new addition to the Lee County Justice Center. The construction, which began in 2005, will expand the Justice Center's capacity from 160 detainees to 450. With this increase, the Lee County Justice Center will soon be able to hold all of the detainees for the cities of Auburn, Opelika and Smiths. The administrative area has also tripled in size, and the facility has many updates that will provide both detainees and employees with a greatly improved facility. The Sheriff's Office will begin phasing in the new areas on May 21 and should be fully operational by June 4.
