Design/Build Masters program

Auburn University Architecture Professor and Co-founder of the Rural Studio D.K. Ruth spoke to the Auburn Rotary Club about the Auburn University the College of Architecture's Design/Build Masters Program. This program attracts graduate students from across the U.S. as well as internationally. Students in Architecture and Building Science design and build a home for a person in need each year. They often utilize storage containers or other recycled materials in these projects.

This year's project is to build a home/studio for noted local quilting artist Mozell Vinson. Vinson has some of her quilts on display at the Smithsonian as well as other museums. The quilt in this picture, produced by Vinson, was auctioned at the Rotary Sweetheart Ball to help raise funds for Vinson's home/studio. Her goal is to have a facility in which she can work and teach children the art of quilting to keep this traditional American folk art alive for generations to come.
