Auburn City Schools Athletic Director Chuck Furlow addressed the Auburn Rotary Club about the achievements and goals of ACS sports teams. Last year, Auburn High School competed in 22 different varsity sports. Remarkably, 15 of these teams won at least an area championship—if not more. Notably, the boys' golf team won its second consecutive state championship. In the annual rating of all sports, AHS ended up rated seventh in the top 10 of all 6A high school sports programs (there are 400 schools in the state). Each classification is set by student enrollment, with 1A being the smallest and 6A being the largest. Auburn City Schools continues to grow each year. During the past three years the entire school system has increased by more than 800 students. There are now more than 5,000 students enrolled in K-12 in Auburn. Furlow also talked about the need for upgrades at Duck Samford Stadium. The fieldhouse (dressing rooms) are in need of repair or replacement. A fundraising drive began last year to supplement the funds available for these upgrades.
