Coach Nell Fortner addressed the club about this year’s Auburn Women’s Basketball team. Coach Fortner began by telling the about the three early signees for next season. Alli Smalley, niece of local pediatriction Dr. Smalley, from Arab is a prolific scorer who Fortner said is going to be a great one at AU. The team has also inked 6’4” Cassie Moore from defending 6A State Champions Jeff Davis and forward Ruth Ketcham from Briarwood Christian in Birmingham. Coach Fortner then told the club about some of the potential stars for this year’s team. She mentioned 6’7” center Keke Carrier who is starting to show some real promise as an inside scorer and intimidator. Forward/guard Dewanna “Big Skinny” Bonner is a potential all-SEC player who played on the U.S. Under 20 squad that recently won an Under 20 World tourney. She also mentioned guard Whitney Boddie, a scorer from Florence, Ala., and Auburn High product Travesha Jackson, who came to AU from a junior college in Florida. This year’s schedule includes an upcoming tournament trip to the Virgin Islands, Washington D.C., another Christmas tourney in Reno, N.V., and Miami before the conference schedule begins in January. |
