Dr. Nancy Golson
Principal
Yarbrough Elementary School

Rotarian Jim Golson introduced his wife, Dr. Nancy Golson, who is principal of Yarbrough Elementary School in Auburn. Dr. Golson, originally from LaGrange, Ga., and the couple relocated to Auburn about eight years ago. An Auburn University graduate, she was the principal of Dean Road Elementary School for seven years prior to being appointed principal at YES prior to the start of this school year.

Golson is committed to educating the “whole” child and has committed to raising funds to build the Magic Mountain located next to her school. Currently, the first through fifth graders “play” on the asphalt parking lot in groups of 50, which requires the grades to be rotated. The plan is to build Magic Mountain on five acres adjacent to the school and utilize the space so that physical exercise and learning activities can be integrated into the students' playground time.

Magic Mountain will include: a multi-purpose field for games such as kickball, soccer and football; partitioned seating for spectators; a playground with up-to-date and innovative playground equipment; picnic area; basketball courts; science center to explore, observe and study nature and for hands-on discovery experiences; volleyball court; amphitheater; and the Hall of Honor, a small building to recognize donors.

Each Auburn City School is responsible for its playground. For a cash or in-kind service donation, please call Yarbrough Elementary School at 887-1970.
