Superintendent Auburn City Schools |

Superintendent Terry Jenkins was introduced by Rotarian and Auburn City Schools Board of Education President Dr. Anne Penney. Jenkins became superintendent of Auburn City Schools in 2001. Since then, he has brought distinction to the local school system through personal accomplishments that include service as president of the Alabama State Association of School Superintendents and the honor of being the 2006 Auburn University College of Education outstanding alumnus. Our city school system has grown from 4,400 students in 2001 to 5,300 this year—and is expected to increase to 5,500 next year. Jenkins has implemented several changes that include: grade configuration (first through fifth grade: five elementary schools, sixth and seventh grades: one middle school; eighth and ninth grades: one junior high; 10th through 12th grades: one high school); uniform facilities (architectural plans that are identical for new schools and expanding schools); new and expanded schools have additions of multi-purpose areas that include cafeterias; the recommendation of a new elementary school to be located on Richland Road in Northeast Auburn; and the recommendation that all ninth graders be given a laptop computer to use through the 12th grade. Jenkins is also trying to maintain a “balance” of children receiving entitlements at each school—this will cause the school district lines to be modified and changed in the near future.
