Tom Wynn provided an update on this annual event held in Montgomery at Maxwell AFB/ Gunter Annex. The original program began in 1959 by the Queensland, Australia Rotary Club to “encourage leadership of youth by youth.” It became an annual event and in 1971 was approved by Rotary as an international event.

RYLA in our district sponsored approximately 85 high school juniors and seniors. Attendees focused on leadership and were challenged to determine who were leaders or followers. Team-building activities included skits, trust-building exercises and teamwork drills. Motivational speakers encouraged and inspired the young leaders.
