Lucy Baxley
Alabama Lieutenant Governor

Alabama's lieutenant governor spoke to the club about her role in state government and her career. She left a position as the number-one realtor in an office of 400 in Birmingham for career in government. Her annual salary dropped to what her taxes were the year before in real estate. She served as our state treasurer and may several allusions to running for Alabama's top elected office someday.

Although Baxley presides over the Senate, she champions causes for senior rights. Her goals are similar to balancing the state budget. "How can we make it fair to all concerned if we can’t be all to everyone." (Sounds a bit like the Four-way Test!) While working in other positions, she has served in many facets of city, county and state government. She pointed out that although she works so closely with the legislative branch of government, her position is part of the executive branch. She really liked our 3rd grade dictionary project.
