John Hachtel
Assistant Vice President
Auburn University Office of Communications and Marketing

Among the many hats John Hachtel wears at Auburn University as assistant vice president of communications and marketing is head of the university's Game Day Committee. This group was established to create policies about game-day parking and tailgating regulations on campus. One of the group's main efforts during football season was to analyze traffic patterns through aerial photography, as well as evaluate the overall tailgating experience.

John compared his Auburn University football game day experience to the University of Baltimore, where about 100 people gathered in a McDonald’s parking lot. The game day emphasis this year was to tell people what they ‘can do’ versus what they cannot do on football weekends. John walked the campus each week talking to many fans — from RV owners to people who have been tailgating in the same space for 30+ years — to gather feedback for changes next year.

John is married with a 13 year old daughter, is on the Chamber of Commerce Board, and loves living in Auburn.
