Marc Reynolds discussed his role in managing the $700-million-a-year Public Education Employees Health Insurance Plan (PEEHIP) for the state of Alabama — a function of the Retirement Systems of Alabama (RSA). The program was timely, as far-reaching changes in the plan were announced earlier that week. With ever-rising health care costs, participants will soon pay more if they fall in categories that usually increase costs of the premiums. People who fail to take medications or change their lifestyles to improve their physical well being will be in a higher rate category in the coming years. Astoundingly, we learned that 60 percent of the people covered by the plan are medically defined as obese. |
