Head Swimming Coach Auburn University |

Coach Marsh gave us an overview of the Olympics in Athens, but more interesting was Margaret Hoelzer’s recap. She is an all-star Auburn University swimmer who is the NCAA champion in the 200m backstroke and placed fifth in Athens — improving her times all along the way. She said security during the games was great for athletes. Margaret called Athens “amazing” when reliving the food, the venues, and the opening and closing ceremonies. The Olympic Village was like living in a large apartment complex with the best food around. “You could have McDonalds for one meal and Asian food for the next,” she said. Since her swimming events were during the first week of the Olympics, Margaret said she was able to attend other Olympic events — this time as a spectator. She recounted how great it was to see so many Auburn teammates compete for other countries and win too! |
