District Governor, Rotary District 6880 |
We are so lucky to have Bob Rudder as District Governor for Distict 6880. He truly loves the work of Rotary and delivers a compelling argument for contributing to the Rotary Foundation. Bob and his wife are from Dothan, and have grown children. He was the chief fund raiser for the Rotary Environmental Center at Camp ASSCA. That project has collected in excess of $100,000, — thanks to the gifts of many clubs in our district. Bob shared with us the work that the West Mobile Rotary Club is doing in Africa. They are providing housing to many displaced, unsheltered citizens. This project is being funded through the Rotary Foundation, and for $650, a duplex can be constructed for two families in need. We also learned of a wonderful school named St. Jude School for Children. It was formed to help kids who have been orphaned in West Africa. A young woman from Australia began saving money to help these children and a local Rotary Club from her home town joined in her efforts to open this school. Today, several hundred children are clothed, nourished and educated there. The village women also learned a trade when sewing machines were donated to help make clothes for the kids. For $300 a year, you can completely care for a child at St. Jude. Bob challenged us to consider giving to one of the many Rotary Foundation projects in the coming year. Bob also thanked Jim Baird and Shawn Asmuth for their service to our district.
