“1979-1980 in the Life of the Auburn Rotary Club”

May 10, 1979

Past President Walter Porter regaled the club with stories of his recent Rotary Exchange visit to Australia’s District 970.

June 7, 1979

The Committee on Long Range Goals and Programs appointed by President H.C. Morgan gave its report. The members—Gene Bramlett, Andy Lamar and Agee Wiggins—suggested a Rotary Park with Activities for Seniors.

July 5, 1979

Less than a month later, the topic at Rotary was the ground breaking for EASEHouse—a facility for the elderly and handicapped. This may not have been exactly the “park” Gene, Andy and Agee had in mind, but action was surely fast!

October 25, 1979

Editor Bill McLemore apologized, “Due to the fact that the editor has misplaced them and could not reach the appropriate source Wednesday, there are no minutes of last week’s activities. Sorry to all those avid readers of this part of the bulletin.”

January 24, 1980

Former member and Past President James Foy, then serving on the governor’s staff, addressed the club on the fist year of Gov. Fob James’ administration.

February 24, 1980

Rotary International turned 75 and the Auburn-Opelika News carried an eight-page spread on the history and activities of the two local Rotary Clubs.
