Rev. Clifford Jones, Pastor of Greater Peace Baptist Church, was selected as Citizen of the Year for 2008 by Auburn Rotary Club. This is the club’s highest honor awarded to a non-Rotarian for his/her exemplary contributions to the community. Rev. Jones is honored for his service to the Auburn-Opelika area including service on the Auburn Board of Education, the Auburn Industrial Board, PACE, the Food Bank, Boys and Girl’s Clubs, Salvation Army and many other social and community service organizations. He was recognized for his work in development of day care and affordable housing for low and moderate income levels and promotion of opportunities for all area citizens. Rev. Jones joins a long list of distinguished citizens recognized each year for over 20 years. Rev. Jones was also presented with a Paul Harris Fellowship.

There were also several former recipients in attendance: Bob Dumas - President Auburn Bank, Rev. John Jeffers, Dr. Ed Richardson, Dr. Terry Jenkins, Martha Faupel, Dr. Jim and Carol Matthews, and James Haygood Jr.
